Dear Colleagues, Friends, & Supporters,

Please join us in congratulating Professor of Mathematics Dr. Christine von Renesse!! This weekend, she was named the winner of the 2025 Carol Crawford Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Mathematics Teaching by the Northeastern Section of The Mathematical Association of America (MAA-NE). The MAA is one of the world's preeminent mathematical societies.

The Crawford Award is considered one of the most prestigious awards for collegiate mathematics teaching.

In an email to Dr. von Renesse, the MAA's selection committee shared that:

“[We were] highly impressed by your passion for teaching and your many contributions at the school, regional, and national levels, especially with the New England Community for Mathematics Inquiry in Teaching (NE-COMMIT).”

In particular, Dr. von Renesse's work on active learning/inquiry based learning, neurodiversity, ableism, professional development of pre- and in-service teachers, alternative assessment, and social justice have caused her to receive this recognition.

The MAA-NE section will be nominating Dr. von Renesse for the 2026 Haimo Award, which is the nationwide analogue to the Crawford Award.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. von Renesse on this lifetime achievement!

Julian Fleron, Phil Hotchkiss, Volker Ecke, & Christine von Renesse.
